XDCAM Proxy Browser Software
Now with XDCAM HD422 (1080i50) support
The PDZ-1 software is a simple-to-use PC application that allows users to easily browse and storyboard video clips recorded by an XDCAM system. It runs on Windows-based PCs and supports two types of interface: i.LINK (File Access Mode) and Ethernet.
Once Proxy Data recorded onto a Professional Disc is transferred to a PC with the PDZ-1 software installed, users can conveniently view and storyboard recorded footage.
The PDZ-1 software also provides a variety of convenient tools for disc operations such as entire or partial disc copy (dubbing), and transfer between two XDCAM devices, or with PC / server products.
Storyboarding on a PC not only allows users to preview their edited sequences instantly, it also provides other benefits such as the creation of ASF files (playable on Windows Media Player), EDL data in various EDL formats and print out this clip list as a document with thumbnails.
Further more, XDCAM HD422 (1080i50) format support is available in the latest PDZ-1 Ver.2.3.
Functionalities
* Supported interfaces: i.LINK (File Access Mode) and Ethernet
* High-speed ingestion of Proxy Data from the XDCAM devices
* Alternatively, ‘Direct mode’ allows users to view and work with proxies directly from the disc enabling users to delay Proxy ingestion until appropriate.
* Browsing of Proxy Data recorded by the XDCAM systems
* Simple and quick cuts-only editing (storyboard).
* Export the Clip List in BVE-9100, Newsbase™ XML and ALE (Avid Log Exchange) formats
* Convert the Proxy Data on the storyboard to an ASF file for replay on Widows Media Player
* Convert the storyboard to an AAF file from required MXF files
* Transfer high-resolution clips according to the Clip List
* Disc copy – entire disc (all clips) or only selected clips
* Registration of metadata such as “title”, “creator”, or “comments” for a disc or clip
* Setting of “EssenceMark” metadata for instant cue-up to desired scenes. Names for EssenceMark metadata can also be easily assigned.
* Clip search function using the registered metadata as a keyword
* Print function allows metadata such as thumbnails, creation date, and comments to be printed out in an easy-to-see storyboard view.
* Selected or all clips on the Professional Disc can be renamed with one operation.
Note: PDW-U1 currently has only file read functionalities when used with PDZ-1, also PDW-U1 does not yet support the ‘Partial File Get’ functionality of PDZ-1

Alister from ingenioustv.com has just released some of the most amazing shots from the XDCAM HD 350 - see for yourself in the first of 14 minute part of his latest documentary.
"This is the first 14 minutes of a half hour mini-doc I have been working on. It's about me and another storm chaser Roger Hill. It follows us on various adventures chasing severe weather including Tornadoes, Lightning and Desert Monsoon storms. Highlights include us narrowly missing a major car crash, encountering giant hail and supercell thunderstorms. In part 2 you will be able to follow us on a very dangerous tornado intercept where we got caught between a large violent tornado and killer hail stones the size of grapefruit."

Sony go after the low-budget independent filmmaker and wildlife filmmaker markets with the all-new PMW-EX3 solid-state interchangeable lens camcorder. Nigel Cooper spends the day with one in Belgium.
"It is no secret that I’m a massive fan of Sony’s XDCAM HD Optical Disc System and the SxS system. I personally own an F350 and have spent 4 months using an EX1 solid-state camcorder too. This review is not going to be incredibly long or extensive, simply because I’ve already done a very extensive review on the PMW-EX1 (see under the camcorder reviews section). The PMW-EX3 is the latest addition to the EX family, and it is basically an EX1, only in a new semi-shoulder mount design and with ‘EX-Mount’ half-inch interchangeable lenses. So for this review I’m basically going to concentrate on the differences between the smaller EX1 and this new EX3."

TVNZ chooses Sony XDCAM HD 422 for seamless migration to HD production

LAS VEGAS (NAB Booth # SU906) April 13, 2008 -
TVNZ Broadcast Services, the production arm of Television New Zealand, has ordered Sony PDW-700 XDCAM HD 422 camcorders as the start of its’ transition to high definition field production. The cameras will be used on lifestyle shows such as the popular “Mucking In” series and other magazine shows.
Paul Hedges, TVNZ Northern Operations Manager, is very positive about the move. “The PDW-700 is a logical step for TVNZ; we currently use the standard definition PDW-530P camera and we want to enhance our productions by shooting in HD, so we are keen to take advantage of the PDW-700”.
TVNZ is impressed by the comprehensive feature set and high level of specification of the PDW-700. “TVNZ has recently produced a standards document outlining the requirements for HD production and the PDW-700 meets all requirements. We very much are looking forward to the delivery of the new cameras”.

Artarmon,
Here is another experiment from Alister Chapman.
He has been freezing an XDCAM Professional Disc into a block of ice while up in the arctic. You can watch the video on youtube. It worked perfectly once he dried off with a hair drier.
